Reducing the bounce rate and increasing traffic for your website. Helpful Info to Keep in Mind
My first website has become one of the popular 100,000 websites on the web in just two years. Given that the web has more than 192 million websites this is considered a tremendous achievement in such a short period of time.
Nothing happens by chance, there is no such thing as luck and you too can do the same by reading my articles. Just read this article and follow my other links and you will surely achieve the same result.
The bounce rate is the percentage of users who view only a single page in your website then leave. This means that those guys only check out the landing page they arrived to then exit your website because nothing caught their attention or forced them to stay.
If you reduced your site’s overall bounce rate from, lets say, 60% to 30% then your traffic will double without doing any extra efforts. This is why the bounce rate is a very important metric and reducing it should be a goal you go after.
Tips for reducing the bounce rate
My website has a bounce rate of 1.8 Percent, which means that out of every 100 person who visits my website only 1 leaves without reading additional pages. Here are the tips i used for reducing the bounce rate:
* Not all pages are created equal: When Google tells you that your bounce rate is 60% it means that your overall site’s bounce rate is 60%. Some pages may be the ones responsible for this high bounce rate if they are popular pages that have high bounce rates. For example if one of your pages gets half the hits your whole website gets (lets say the main page) and the bounce rate of this page is 70% then surely it will impact your site’s overall bounce rate. In short, start by popular pages having bounce rate more than 30% and fix them. If you don’t know how to use Google analytics then check my articles Using Google analytics to increase your profits and How to add Google analytics to your website
* Add Links within the page:Some users leave before reaching the end of the article even if they liked it. In order to prevent those users from escaping through these pages add links within the content of your page so that they click on them instead of leaving (Guess who is doing this?)
* Catch those who reach the bottom: Take a quick look at the footer of this page and you will find lots of relevant links that are closely related to the topic you are reading about. Always add such links below each page in order to capture the attention of those who leave after reading the whole page
* Why can’t I see you?: Most people will leave if the first few lines weren’t strong enough to make them stay. How did you feel when you read the first few lines in this post?? People won’t remember your site if you didn’t make enough noise. The first few lines are perfect examples of the type of noise online users like (based on research) . Don’t make your page seem like the hundreds of replicas out there on the web, make some noise (see How to write popular articles)
* Where have I seen this before?: The most common reason for exiting a page before completing it is finding it similar in content to other pages. In short, unless you offer different content or similar content in a different way your bounce rate will be very high.
Are you targeting the right people?: I depend on search engine traffic heavily for bringing visitors to my website, that’s why I always get visitors who want to read what I am writing about since they are the ones who searched for it. Make sure that your articles are properly optimized, that you are marketing your website to people who are interested in it and that only the right people reach your website
